How To Build The Perfect Skincare Routine (featuring Glowssentials)
It’s not enough to have good skin-care products: For your products to be most effective, you also need to apply them in the correct order. Your routine will depend on your skin type, the ingredients and formulations of your products, and the time of day. A good rule of thumb, though, is to apply in order of texture, from thinnest to thickest, since thin products won’t be able to penetrate thicker ones.
Whether you have a three- or nine-step routine, there’s one thing anyone can do to improve their skincare, which is to apply products in the right order. From cleansing to SPF, here are five must-skincare steps that you should never skip from your skincare routine.
1. Cleansing
Begin by using a face cleanser that is apt for your skin type. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, get a face wash that cleanses oil with dirt and impurities. If you have dry skin, get a moisturizing face wash and if you have sensitive skin, get a gentle face wash that doesn’t irritate your skin.
Also, it’s a two-step process.
Step 1: Before you cleanse your face with a face wash, make sure you clean all the sweat and dirt from your face with PIXY Glowssetials Mulberry Infused Micellar Water.
Step 2: Followed by using PIXY Glowssentials Light Radiance Soft & Bright Whip Foam Cleanser you cleanse thoroughly.
2. Exfoliating
Exfoliating is a skincare essential that helps you get rid of excess oil, dead skin cells, deep-settled oil and dirt and helps you achieve smooth and unclog skin.
Use a gentle scrub or gentle peel-off mask on your face at least twice a week to get rid of all the impurities like dirt, oil and sweat from your face. PIXY Glowssentials have 2 amazing products for you to choose from – Light Radiance Smooth & Bright Peel-Off Mask or Pollution Off Clay + Scrub Mask
Extra tips: If you have oily skin, you should exfoliate 3 times a week for clearer skin.
3. Toning
Even after cleansing, there are residues from makeup and oil-based products that remain on your skin. Also, cleansing and exfoliating open pores which can invite bacteria and lead to acne.
Toner contains active ingredients that cleanse your skin thoroughly, get rid of bacteria and help balance the pH levels of the skin. Thus, toning is an absolute must after cleansing, especially for oily and acne-prone skin. But there are many ways to use toners and avoid mixing it with other products if you are unsure.
If your toner is exfoliating—meaning that it removes dead skin cells with ingredients like glycolic acid—use only at night. Hydrating formulas can be used twice a day. Do not use exfoliating toner and retinoids or other exfoliators at the same time.
4. Moisturizing
Moisturizer both hydrates skin and locks in all the other layers of product you’ve applied. Look for a lightweight lotion for the morning, ideally with SPF 30 or higher. In the evening, you can use a thicker night cream. Those with dry skin may want to use a cream morning and night.
For beginners, we suggest using PIXY Glowssentials Light Radiance Tone & Bright Cream – a multifunctional moisturizer cream that has an instant Brightening Effect. It helps to instantly brighten the skin and still look natural, disguising black spots and acne scars so that the skin tone looks more even.
5. SPF
It may be the last step, but nearly any dermatologist will tell you that sun protection is the most important part of any skin-care regimen. Protecting your skin from UV rays can prevent skin cancer and signs of ageing. If your moisturizer doesn’t contain SPF, you still need to wear sunscreen. For instance, PIXY Glowssentials Pollution Off Sunshield Daily Moisturizer – a daily moisturizer that protects the skin from sunlight and polluting particles, such as dust, smoke, and dirt.
